RE

Mrs Groombridge is the curriculum leader for RE.
At Hawkinge Primary School the RE curriculum is taught using the Kent Agreed Syllabus that was published in 2022. The main aim of the curriculum is to ensure that all pupils are engaged in systematic enquiry into significant human questions which religion and worldviews address, so that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own.
At Hawkinge Primary School we want children to:
  • Have an understanding of a variety of religious and non-religious worldviews
  • Be able to have meaningful, informed and compassionate dialogue with any one from any belief
  • Express their own beliefs and be appropriately challenged by others
  • Have enriching experiences to make them better global citizens
  • Be open minded about different religions and cultures throughout the wider world
  • Develop responses to their own questions to religious ideas or to world events
  • Promote British values – showing mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and values.
Parents/carers can withdraw their children from RE lessons at any point.

They also use art; for example, below is a picture of Torah Scrolls pupils made – each child wrote ‘A rule for us all’ and children paintings images of the Holi Festival.

We like to visit the church in Hawkinge to find out more about Christianity. Below is a picture of Reverend Grinsell teaching EYFS pupils about infant baptism.
